Cybercriminals are promoting fake ads on Facebook enticing them to use artificial intelligence technology (AI) tools for free. Many are tempted to download the AI tool as the advertisement shows the temptation of using the ‘AI photo editing’ tool for free. By clicking on the link associated with the advertisement, the malware enters the computer or smartphone and steals various information of the users as well as takes control of the Facebook page, said Trend Micro.
According to Trend Micro’s report, cybercriminals are running ads offering free use of AI photo editing tools. Cybercriminals are conducting various fraud activities by hacking users’ Facebook pages using malware attached to these advertisements. Not only that, they are also spreading harmful posts from hacked Facebook pages.
After taking control of other people’s Facebook pages through malware, cybercriminals display ads selling various products through that page as well as downloading AI photo editing tools. As a result, many people get confused and get cheated by clicking on the ad.
Security analysts advise not to click on suspicious Facebook ads to stay safe from malware attacks. Besides, they have asked to be aware in downloading the AI tool for editing pictures displayed on Facebook pages of unknown persons or organizations.
