Google is adding a new scam detection tool to its Phone app to automatically detect fraudulent phone calls. The artificial intelligence (AI) technology scam detection tool codenamed ‘Sharpy’ will check the history of phone calls to identify whether it is a scam call or not. Not only that, it will automatically block the call in addition to alerting the users in case of a scam call. As a result, users will be safer from scam calls than at present.
According to a report by Android Authority, Google’s Gemini Nano AI technology will be used in the Sharpie AI tool. As a result, Google’s phone app can easily analyze the subject of a phone call, voice changes, and identify whether it is a suspicious or fraudulent phone call.
Google’s Phone app currently detects scam calls by reviewing user complaints and blacklists. But the new AI tool will alert users by instantly detecting suspicious voices in phone calls. The tool can also be used to report scam calls.
Google is currently testing the functionality of the new AI tool in version 138.0.654539475 of the Phone app. However, there is no specific information about when the tool will be added to the phone app.
Incidentally, last May at its developer conference, Google demonstrated scam call detection technology through Gemini Nano AI technology.
